Deathstalker scorpions live in the deserts and scrublands in North Africa and the Middle East. They reside under rocks, and commonly dig burrows up to 20cm in depth to regulate temperature. They move by alternating the up and down, and back and forth movement of their 8 legs.
Deathstalker scorpions are active hunters, they are also nocturnal, they use their claw like pedipalps to capture prey and then they use their tail to paralyze it. Deathstalkers are preyed upon by some animals, and commonly other Deathstalkers. The toxins the Deathstalker produce are beneficial and harmful to humans. The toxin is harmful to humans, and can kill children or the infirm. The toxin is also used in cancer research and is being studied as a possible treatment for diabetes.
Scorpions reproduce sexually, little is known about the gestation, but we do know it lasts between 122 and 127 days after fertilization. Offspring are born quite large and fully formed. the average number of offspring is 62.7.
The Deathstalker scorpion is not a protected species, has not been studied for abundance in the wild, and have small ecological impact. Scorpions glow under black light, making them easy to spot with the right equipment.
